Don’t write about what you think you should be writing about

Write about what fuels you

If I wrote about what I think I should be writing about, I would be writing about marketing.

First of all, I know nothing about marketing. So I would have to do a lot of research and that would take up a lot of time.

Second of all, I’m not passionate about marketing. And readers would be able to tell.

So not only would I be spending a lot of time researching and writing about something I’m not passionate about, but also my writing would come across as bland and lacking emotional connection.

What really gives me joy is writing about writing. I’ve learned so many tips throughout the years on how to make the time to write no matter what, and I want other people to know too.

That’s what fuels me.

But it took me a long time to accept that it was ok to write about these things.

I always thought I had to write about what ‘the cool kids’ were writing about.

But what makes the cool kids cool?

They’ve nailed a topic they know a lot about.

They’re writing about something that fuels them.
